Tribhuvan University is an independent, non-profit organisation supported by the Nepalese government. Primarily, the Nepali government decided on January 8, 2013, to designate Tribhuvan University as the Central University. The first national university in Nepal was founded in 1959 and is known as Tribhuvan University (TU). Following the second democratic movement in 2006, the Minister of Education serves as the Pro-Chancellor and the Prime Minister of Nepal is the ceremonial leader and university Chancellor.
